Creating an environment that can be called a “spiritual home”

This facility is located on a 2.5ha site, at an altitude of 543-585m, in a scenic location overlooking Mt. Yufu to the east and the town of Yufu to the south, and has hot springs. We are planning an auberge (hotel) based on the concept of a “botanical retreat” and aim to create an experience where guests can enjoy the luxury of nature itself.
In the landscape design, we thought that the existing nature would be a gift that would enrich the hearts of the guests. The stones buried in the site were carefully reused as part of the land’s identity. The same goes for the surrounding cedar grove and the existing cherry trees and camellias. The idea was to take advantage of the accumulation of time in this land, grow new trees, create a forest, and return them to the mountains in the future. For meals, vegetables grown in the greenhouse and herb garden connected to the farm, are used to create a dialogue with nature through the experience of food.
A landscape has been set up that allows visitors to walk around the entire site, creating a small forest where you can enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery and views of the city, as well as feel the changing seasons, the voices of birds, and the whispers of the trees. By maintaining a permanent attraction filled with the richness of nature, we aim to create an environment that guests will want to visit again the following year, and call it their “spiritual home.” Our goal is to nurture the environment that heals the body and soul of our guests by taking advantage of the natural cycle and realizing that people are part of the circle.
